MCL qualifications portfolio includes awards, certificates and diplomas from level 3 to 7 that are the culmination of expert input from colleges, industry professionals and our qualification development team. MCL also has partnerships with many UK and international universities providing opportunities to progress to Bachelors and Master’s degree top-ups. The business school is offering a flexible route to gain British qualifications leading to BA Business and Finance and an MBA top-up.

The Business and Management qualification covers key areas of management such as Leadership and Research with a wide range of optional units in areas such as Finance, HR, Marketing and Personal Development. It also provides entry to an MBA at a range of universities in the UK and overseas. The qualification typically takes 9 months full-time study to achieve and prepares learners for a range of careers. As well as the Extended Diploma option (120 credit) there is a Diploma option (60 credit).

The addition of our GenEd pathway in 2018, if taken in combination with the MCL Level 4 Extended Diploma in Management and the MCL Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management, allows the learner to progress onto a Bachelor’s degree in the USA at Northwood University in Michigan. A range of specific units are required in order to meet the criteria.

Level 3 Diploma in Business

The MCL Level 3 Diploma in Business is a 60-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to an A Level or Access to HE qualification. It has been designed for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required. We also offer a larger, 120-credit qualification in Business and Management at this level.

Modules

Learners must complete all 4 mandatory units.

  • How Businesses Operate
    The key features of an organisation and their importance are explored, including finance, leadership, HR, marketing, managing data and customer service.
  • Marketing Principles and Techniques
    An introduction to marketing is provided, followed by a look at research, analysis and promotional techniques.
  • Academic and Research Skills for Business
    This unit is for understanding ones own academic strengths and weaknesses and developing research papers using a variety of skills.
  • Communication Skills for Business
    A look at how communication is used in business and how ones own communication skills can be developed to effectively present information and ideas.
  • Optional

With this Level 3 Diploma, learners can take A-Levels in Law, IT, and Business.

Progression Routes

Learners who complete this qualification can progress to study a variety of bachelor’s degrees at a university such as one of our partner universities.

MCL is offering a flexible route for learners to obtain a BA in Business and Finance (top-up) from universities in the United Kingdom. This route provides learners with the ability to learn part-time. Thus making it easier for learners who are not able to attend full time courses.

Level 4 Extended Diploma in Business and Management

Year One

The MCL Level 4 Extended Diploma in Business and Management has been designed for learners who wish to develop the skills and knowledge required for roles in junior management. They have also been developed with progression in mind and enable learners to continue on to a range of Bachelor’s degrees.

Modules

There are three different qualifications available on the 2018 specification. If you study the 120-credit extended diploma then you must study all 4 mandatory units and pick 4 optional units. If you study the 60-credit diploma then you must study 2 mandatory units and 2 optional units. The GenEd version of the qualification requires 11 mandatory units. To see which units are mandatory and see the contents of each unit you can view the Qualification Specification.

Entry Criteria

These qualifications are designed for learners who are typically aged 18 and above. For learners who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of following:

  a GCE Advanced level profile with achievement in 2 or more subjects supported by 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above

  other related level 3 subjects such as MCL level 3 Diplomas

  an Access to Higher Education Certificate delivered by an approved further education institute and validated by an Access Validating Agency

  other equivalent international qualifications

Learners must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments.

Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management

Year Two

The MCL Level 5 Extended Diploma in Business and Management has been designed for learners who wish to develop the skills and knowledge required for roles in management roles. They have also been developed with progression in mind and enable learners to continue on to a range of Bachelor’s degrees.

Level 6 Extended Diploma in Management

Year Three

The MCL Level 6 Extended Diploma in Management was developed in 2016 with support and feedback from UK universities, with a BA in Business and Finance top-up.

Modules

The optional units chosen will determine which pathway is achieved. Alternatively you can choose any 4 optional units and achieve the general pathway. Progression Routes

Entry Criteria

These qualifications provide a flexible route for learners who have already achieved management qualifications at a lower level as well as for learners who do not have business or management qualifications, but may have qualifications in other areas and/or prior management experience in the work place.

  • One or two years’ study of business, management or related qualifications at a Higher Education Institution
  • A level 5 qualification in business, management or related subjects for example an MCL Level 5 Diploma in Management
  • Other equivalent international qualifications

The MCL Diploma in Accounting and Finance is designed to meet the needs of senior/middle managers and accountants in the running of their businesses, and to facilitate their progression to higher levels within their organisation. It focuses on developing understanding, skills and abilities to equip the Learner with the awareness and aptitudes to be an effective accounting and finance manager.
